Sport event management software
The local branch of the Canadian Legion faced a significant challenge in managing their sporting events using traditional pen-and-paper methods. Recognizing this opportunity to leverage technology, I proposed developing a custom desktop application to modernize their operations.
Key Requirements:
- Offline Functionality: The application needed to function seamlessly both online and offline, ensuring uninterrupted access for staff who may not always have reliable internet connectivity.
- Data Synchronization: A robust system was essential to store and sync data with the Legion's existing database, ensuring data consistency and accessibility.
- User-Friendly Design: Given the staff's varying levels of technological proficiency, the application required a user-friendly interface with clear navigation and minimal complexity.
Development Approach:
To address these requirements, I adopted a user-centered design approach. Through in-depth interviews and observations, I gained a comprehensive understanding of the staff's needs and workflows. This process revealed the critical need for an application that was intuitive and easy to use, even for those less familiar with technology.
To enhance usability, I incorporated several design elements:
- Spacious Layout: Ample white space was used to create a clean and uncluttered interface.
- Prominent Buttons: Large, well-labeled buttons ensured easy navigation and interaction.
- Guided Tours: A built-in tour guide provided step-by-step instructions, guiding users through the application's features.
By prioritizing these design principles, I aimed to create an application that was not only functional but also enjoyable to use, empowering the Legion's staff to efficiently manage their sporting events.
