Responsibilities
I wore a few hats on this project and got to dip into some programming, community management and help assist with some game design elements.
- Online Matchmaking: The application needed to function seamlessly both online and offline, ensuring uninterrupted access for staff who may not always have reliable internet connectivity.
- Custom ELO system: For AVARIAvs we really wanted a custom ELO ranking system as we found the default one (used in Chess) doesn't translate too well into the video game space. I was tasked with creating a custom formula that would be fair to all players and not give players a sense of dread when they lose, but still making sure the players winning can climb the ladder.
- Community Management: Another part of my role on this project was community management through the game's official Discord server and Reddit page. This included tasks such as posting news, handling questions from the community about the game and connecting with content creators to show off the game.
The game was launched in May of 2019 and was such a fun project to work on! Being able to ship a video game with my name on it was a lifelong childhood dream and I'm so grateful to have worked on it with the team from Juncutre Media.
